Notre Dame wide receiver Corey Robinson will have more responsibilities than just catching passes next fall.

The senior-to-be was elected by his fellow classmates to be Notre Dame’s student body president for the 2016-2017 academic year on Wednesday, along with his vice presidential running mate, sophomore Becca Blais. Robinson told Notre Dame’s student newspaper, The Observer, last month that if he were to win the election it wouldn’t disrupt his regimented schedule with the football team.

Robinson is the first Notre Dame football player to be elected student body president:

Robinson’s duties as president, according to Notre Dame’s division of student affairs, include:

“The President shall serve as the Chair of the Ethics Commission, voting member of Financial Management Board, Campus Life Council, and Hall of the Year Selection Committee, and is a non-voting member of the Student Senate. The President also is responsible for appointing the two Vice Presidents, Parliamentarian, and next Judicial Council President.”

David Robinson joined ESPN's "Mike and Mike" show on Thursday and discussed his son's election.

"It’s not surprising," Robinson said. "The only surprising thing to me is how he finds the time to do everything. Last semester he wrote and album, he was performing music, he and a friend of his started up a non-profit that the NCAA Division I has now adopted as one of their non-profits. I don’t know where he finds the time to do all this stuff, but he’s been pretty amazing."

A few of Robinson’s teammates, both current and former, tweeted on Wednesday their support for his candidacy:

Robinson also received endorsements from Justin Tuck, Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Jon Bon Jovi:

“I’ve never endorsed anyone for president,” Duncan said in the video, “but when I heard Corey Robinson was running for student body president, I was happy to jump on board. He’s a quality young man. And I’m happy to say, I’m Tim Duncan and I endorse Corey Robinson. Please vote for him.”

Robinson was named a first-team Academic All-American in 2014, becoming the first sophomore to earn that honor since 2008. In three years with the Irish, Robinson has totaled 65 receptions, 896 yards and seven touchdowns.
