Call it a “pocket” quarterback controversy (no pun intended), compared to a real one where a team’s starting quarterback is at issue.
Jay Cutler was out on the practice field with teammates on Wednesday but the Bears quarterback was more in the role of assistant coach for Jimmy Clausen and David Fales, not starting quarterback.
The Bears are now down to two quarterbacks on their active roster.
Few expect the Bears to open against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 13 with the identical 53-man roster that was in place at the close of business on Saturday.
It wasn't a perfect preseason by any means, but the Bears finished their four-game slate on a high note.
