Delaware's first legal wager, made by the governor, is a bet against the Cubs

Dating back to 1992, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act did not allow sports betting except in four states: Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon.

Fast forward 26 years later and on May 14th 2018, the Supreme Court overturned PASPA, which now allows all 50 states to bet on sports games.

Just over three weeks into the legal sports wagers, we have our first bet. Delaware Governor John Carney was all smiles in a video posted by ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell on Tuesday, when Carney made the first sports wager for $10 on the Philadelphia Phillies money line to beat the Cubs tonight at Wrigley Field.

Carney, however, didn’t come alone. Five people in Delaware have placed bets, both on baseball and the NBA Finals.

It could be a risky $10 wager for Carney, considering the Cubs are coming off their recent four-game sweep of the New York Mets. The Cubs also won two of three games in their last home series against the Giants last week.
