Gary Bettman: Blackhawks are ‘built for the long haul'

When the Blackhawks were presented the Stanley Cup for the third time in six years 114 days ago, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman called Chicago a dynasty.

Due to the salary cap, the Blackhawks had to make some changes this offseason, but Bettman believes the team is still set for the future.

"This is the testiment to a well-run team that starts with ownership Rocky Wirtz, and then John McDonough, Stan Bowman and the players," said Bettman on Wednesday prior to the Blackhawks' 2015 season opener. "This is a team that's been built for the long haul, and yes, we have incredible competitive balance. We are coming off an exciting season and here we start again."

Bettman also commented on the Patrick Kane incident.

"The fact of the matter is, other than the fact that there's an investigation and there are allegations, we and the Blackhawks don't know a lot. And that's just the function when there's a criminal investigation going on, access to information, people talking to you doesn't exist. And so before we could make any decisions, we have to know a lot more than we do now. There are serious allegations but that's all they are at this point. if that's to change, we'll have to reevaluate at the time."
