Geno Smith: Brandon Marshall a ‘QB's best friend'

Geno Smith seems to be enjoying his new wide receiver.

The Jets quarterback spoke to the team's website over the weekend and called Brandon Marshall, who the Jets acquired in March, "a quarterbacks's best friend."

Smith also added that "for one, he's a veteran guy. He understands the game on and off the field. He's a beast of a player. You can't say enough good things about him."

Marshall spent three seasons in Chicago, totaling 279 receptions, 3,524 yards and 31 touchdowns. His reunion with Jay Cutler from their time in Denver started off well, but the relationship soured as the Bears struggled on the field, and Marshall had his own issues off it as well.

But he could find new life in New York after posting just 61 catches in 2014. The Jets, behind Smith, have Marshall, Eric Decker and rookie Devin Smith at wide receiver and signed Stevan Ridley. They also did plenty on the other side of the ball, with no move bigger than signing Darrelle Revis.

The Bears replaced Marshall by selecting Werst Virginia WR Kevin White with the No. 7 pick in April's NFL Draft.

Marshall is prone to blowing up at a moment's notice, but it appears for now that he's got his quarterback on his side.
