Gold Cup: USMNT wraps up Group A play against 2013 finalist Panama

Following slender victories against Honduras and Haiti, Jurgen Klinsmann's U.S. national team concludes Group A play as a re-match of the 2013 Gold Cup final takes place against regional foes Panama on Monday night.

Los Canaleros, who currently sit in second place with two points - one ahead of Haiti and Honduras - could guarantee their advancement to the knockout stages with a win against the U.S. Anything less, however, and their fate would hinge on other results.

The Americans, meanwhile secured the top spot in the the group after an opening win over a dynamic Honduran outfit and Friday's triumph over an athletic and uncompromising Haiti.

Klinsmann's group has punched below their weight in the biennial competition thus far. A nervy display against Honduras gave rise to some concern regarding the team's resourcefulness in the attack and defensive malleability.

Friday's quarterfinal-clinching victory didn't exactly put anyone's mind to rest either. Lack of continuity - due in large part to Klinsmann's tinkering of the starting lineup that included a glaring seven changes - reared its head before Clint Dempsey's third goal of the tournament ensured the U.S.'s passage to the last eight.

With a clearer path set in stone, squad rotation could be a talking point once again. Klinsmann, who's used 19 of his 23 available players, hinted midfielders Alejandro Bedoya and Alfredo Morales - the only fieldplayers yet to appear - may play a role in the hot and humid conditions expected Monday night at Sporting Park.
