Hector Noesi to start for White Sox on Monday in Toronto

As promised, Hector Noesi is expected to make a start for the White Sox next week.

With the club looking to give Carlos Rodon additional rest between turns and a doubleheader on Thursday, Noesi will make his first start in 16 days on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays, manager Robin Ventura said Friday.

Noesi is 0-3 with a 6.06 ERA in four starts this season. He has made two relief appearances since his last start May 9 when he was knocked out of the game after he was struck by a line drive.

“We’ll be able to give Rodon that time to give him a stretch too where you can give him that rest,” Ventura said. “We’re looking at Noesi for Monday, but even looking at him (Thursday), his velocity was a lot more.  I think any guy that goes from starting to all the sudden in the pen, even though he’s got one inning, he probably added a couple miles to his fastball.”

Noesi has pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief since his last start, including a scoreless inning on Thursday.

When the White Sox announced that Rodon was transitioning into the rotation last week, they said it wasn’t the end of Noesi as a starter. The club hopes to limit Rodon’s 2015 workload and therefore intends to space out his starts and potentially even skip him in some instances. Ventura didn’t commit to when Rodon is expected to make his next start but said, “not very long.”

Ventura also said Scott Carroll is a possibility to make one of two starts in Thursday’s doubleheader in Baltimore. Chris Sale, who pitches Saturday against the Minnesota Twins, is also on schedule to pitch Thursday.
