The Highland Park Giants high school football team visited Halas Hall to join the Chicago Bears for training camp on Wednesday.

The team also donated $80,000 to the Highland Park Community Foundation, and the NFL Foundation has matched that donation.

A mass shooting occurred during the July 4th parade, as a 21-year old shooter perched above on top of a building unloaded an assault rifle on the patrons below, killing seven in the incident.

The 21-year-old suspect, who grew up in the area, faces seven counts of first-degree murder with many more criminal charges to come, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said. The seven counts announced Tuesday would, if convicted, carry a mandatory sentence of life without parole, Rinehart said.

The players and coaches met with the kids after practice at training camp.
