Indiana and Virginia will tussle in a future home-and-home series, the two schools announced Tuesday.

And while that sounds exciting for basketball fans, this is a football series.

The Hoosiers and Cavaliers will meet in 2017 and 2018, the first of those games coming in Charlottesville, Va., and the second in the Bloomington.

These two have recent history, playing in both 2009 and 2011. Virginia won the first meeting in blowout fashion, 47-7, while the second was a closer win for the Cavaliers, 34-31.

"As I have previously noted, like IU, the University of Virginia is one of the premier public universities from one of the top conferences in the country," Indiana athletics director Fred Glass said in the announcement. "In addition to previously announced series against UConn, Cincinnati and Ball State, this matchup is appealing to our players, alumni and fans."

Indiana and Virginia are two of the least-successful Power 5 conference programs in recent college-football history. The two programs have combined to go to one bowl game since 2007, and they have a combined winning percentage of .337 in that span.

Virginia is the second Power 5 conference foe added to Indiana's future schedules. The Hoosiers play another ACC opponent, Wake Forest, in 2015 and 2016.
