Hornets draft LaMelo, whose dad once said he'd beat MJ 1-on-1

Oh, now this is fun.

Wednesday, the Hornets selected guard LaMelo Ball third overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Ball, as you know, is the brother of Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball and son of LaVar Ball.

LaVar has been very outspoken of his sons' talents through this years — he said Lonzo, during his freshman and lone collegiate season at UCLA, was already better than Warriors MVP point guard Steph Curry. But along with those comments, he also made a bold declaration about his own basketball talents.

“Back in my heyday, I would kill Michael Jordan one-on-one,’’ LaVar told USA Today in March 2017. “I would just back [Jordan] in and lift him off the ground and call a foul every time he fouls me when I do a jump hook to the right or the left.

"He cannot stop me one-on-one. He better make every shot ’cause he can’t go around me. He’s not fast enough. And he can only make so many shots outside before I make every bucket under the rim."

Who's the owner of the Hornets, LaMelo's new team? Ah, right, it's His Airness, the Hall of Fame, six-time NBA champion and five-time NBA MVP.

LaVar played one season of Division I basketball, averaging 2.2 points per game with Washington State in 1987-88

The memes are writing themselves.

Jordan, asked to comment about Ball's declaration in August 2017, said "I don't think he could beat me if I was one-legged."

There's only one way to settle this, especially now that LaMelo is a Hornet. MJ and LaVar have to play 1-on-1, even if we know how that would go.

Life comes at you fast.
