Indians acquire Lillibridge from Red Sox

Brent Lillibridge has a new home. Again.

After being designated for assignment by Boston July 16, the Red Sox dealt the utilityman to Cleveland Tuesday afternoon for minor-league pitcher Jose De La Torre. Lillibridge was traded from the White Sox to Boston along with pitcher Zach Stewart for third baseman Kevin Youkilis June 24.

Lillibridge had a fantastic season with the White Sox in 2011, hitting 13 home runs with an .845 OPS in 97 games. But he tailed off prior to his trade to Boston, hitting just .175 with no home runs in 70 plate appearances with the White Sox.

He struggled to re-gain his form in Boston, only getting two hits in 16 at-bats before he was designated for assignment. Lillibridge will have a spot on Cleveland's 25-man roster, and the Indians will announce a corresponding roster move Wednesday.

This is the fourth trade Lillibridge has been involved in during his seven-year professional career. Previously, the Braves acquired him from Pittsburgh in 2007 and shipped him to Chicago along with Tyler Flowers and two other prospects in the 2008 Javier Vazquez trade.
