Joliet West senior Teyvion Kirk commits to Drake

One of this summer's biggest stock risers in the area was Joliet West senior guard Teyvion Kirk.

After a solid junior season in which he was named all conference in the Southwest Suburban Blue, the 6-foot-3 guard became a priority recruit for mid-major schools this summer after Kirk's play on the grassroots circuit with All-In/Young & Reckless.

Kirk made his commitment on Wednesday night as he's headed to the Missouri Valley Conference to play for Drake. The Bulldogs were able to win Kirk's commitment over his other finalists of Brown, Denver, Duquesne, Green Bay, Southern Illinois and UTEP.

"I had a great relationship [with the coaches]. They really believe in me," Kirk said. "It felt like a family. It's a great conference and a good situation playing right away."

Joliet West made huge strides as an area power last season as they finished 21-10 and won a Class 4A sectional title before falling to Benet for a state title berth. With Kirk and junior wing Trevian Bell (a Wisconsin-Green Bay commit) both returning to lead a team that started all juniors last season, the Tigers will be one of the favorites to win a state title this year.

As a junior, Kirk averaged 12.5 points, 4.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game as he was the engine that made the Joliet West offense go. If Kirk can continue to elevate his play like he did the spring and summer, there is a strong chance he can make the CSN Preps All-Area team at the end of the season.
