Kobe Bryant credits Michael Jordan's help for his five NBA championships

Would Kobe Bryant have won five championships without help from Michael Jordan? Bryant himself claims he probably wouldn’t have in a posthumous interview that brought about many emotions during episode five of “The Last Dance.”

Viewers were treated to one last interview with Bryant, as he discussed his relationship with Michael Jordan, and how their relationship began at the 1998 All-Star game in Madison Square Garden.

Fans who tuned into Bryant’s memorial service at the end of February heard Jordan speak about how he saw Bryant as a little brother. Anyone who watched Bryant play could easily see that he modeled his game after MJ, although he often shied away from comparisons to Jordan.

But in that poignant interview, Bryant shared insight to the other side of that relationship as he recalled the advice Jordan gave to him during that All-Star game.

“Michael provided a lot of guidance for me,” Bryant said. “I don’t get five championships here without him. He guided me so much and gave me so much great advice.”

But it wasn’t just the typical “work hard and keep your head down” stuff you typically hear.

“I had a question about shooting his turnaround shot,” Bryant said. “So I asked him about it. He gave me this great detailed answer.”

“But on top of that, he said if you ever need anything, give me a call. That’s my big brother.”
