Liberty edges Woodlawn in OT for 3rd in IHSA Class 1A

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Cole Wellman scored 23 and Tayton Roe overcame woeful shooting with a 3-pointer and two free throws in the final 97 seconds of overtime to help lead Liberty past Woodlawn 57-51 in the IHSA Class 1A third-place game Saturday.

Roe, who shot 2-of-12 from the field, finished with eight points and Reed Wolfmeyer added 12 for Liberty (30-5). The Eagles were only 16-55 from the field, but outrebounded Woodlawn (29-5) by 13 and made 21 of 29 free throws, including 11 from Wellman.

Ross Owens led the Cardinals with 10 points and Garrett Minks and Blake Wollerman each had nine. Minks and Wollerman had eight rebounds each.

Daniel Mast added eight points and 13 rebounds for Liberty, which led nearly the entire first half but had to fight to force overtime.
