Mark Johnson promoted again as Cubs announce minor league staff

Mark Johnson is getting the Ryne Sandberg treatment from the Cubs the last few years.

Like Sandberg, Johnson started at the lower levels of the Cubs farm system before steadily moving up the ranks.

In 2016, Johnson will be the Double-A Tennessee manager, his fourth promotion in six years.

Johnson - who was drafted by the White Sox in the first round of the 1994 MLB Draft - turned 40 in September. He stared his Cubs managerial career with the Boise Hawks in short-season A-ball in 2011.

From there, Johnson became the manager of the Cubs' Class-A affiliate Kane County Cougars in 2013-14, where he was named Baseball America's Minor League Manager of the Year in 2014 after leading the Cougars to a 91-win championship season (including a 7-0 record in the playoffs).
