Matt Stafford placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Detroit Lions announced on Wednesday that quarterback Matthew Stafford has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

This doesn’t mean Stafford himself has tested positive for COVID-19, he may have just been exposed to the virus. It’s also unclear how long Stafford will spend on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

If Stafford was merely exposed and tested negative himself, he needs to return a second negative test at least 24 hours later before returning to the team. If he tested positive but is asymptomatic, Stafford can return once 10 days have passed since his initial positive result, or five days have passed since his initial positive test and he has received two negative tests at least 24 hours apart.

If Stafford tested positive and is symptomatic, he can return after 10 days have passed since he first began experiencing symptoms and at least 72 hours have passed since he last experienced symptoms.

The Lions face the Vikings in a divisional matchup this Sunday. The Bears next play the Lions in Week 13, on Dec. 6.
