Six Notre Dame players were arrested in two separate incidents Friday night and Saturday morning in Indiana.

Senior safety Max Redfield, sophomore linebacker Te'von Coney, sophomore running back Dexter Williams, redshirt freshman cornerback Ashton White and freshman receiver Kevin Stepherson were all arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana in Fulton County, about 35 miles south of South Bend. Redfield, Stepherson and Williams were also booked on an additional charge of possession of a handgun without a license.

From the Indiana State Police's website:

Trooper Reason initiated a traffic stop on a 2007 Ford Focus on U.S. 31, near Fulton County Road 375 North, for allegedly traveling 73 miles per hour in a posted 60 miles per hour zone. The Ford also allegedly had an improper taillight. While Trooper Reason was speaking with the driver, identified as White, he allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the car. Trooper Reason utilized his narcotics detecting police dog, Cartoush, to conduct a free air sniff around the Ford. The dog indicated the presence of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the car, officers allegedly found marijuana and a loaded handgun.

Notre Dame senior cornerback Devin Butler, who's recovering from a foot injury, was also arrested early Saturday morning in South Bend and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on a preliminary charge of battery to a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, which are both felonies.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor's office initially said Butler was officially charged with both those offenses, but court documents show Butler has not been charged.

Notre Dame vice president for public affairs and communications Paul Browne offered the following statement: "Any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university. The university will determine if additional sanctions should apply to any or all of the students charged."

The charges levied against Redfield, Coney, Williams, White and Stepherson are all misdemeanors, a Fulton County Jail official confirmed. Those five players posted bond and were released from the Fulton County Jail in Rochester, Ind., Saturday afternoon.
