Mitch Leidner throws four TD passes as Gophers beat Indiana State

After last week’s nail-biting comeback win, there was no reason for concern for the Gophers in Week 2.

Minnesota blasted Indiana State, 58-38, on Saturday, scoring an easy 30-point win over an FCS opponent.

Mitch Leidner dominated, matching a career-high with four touchdown passes and nearly reaching 300 yards passing. Running back Kobe McCrary scored a pair of touchdowns, including one on a 50-yard scamper, accumulating a whopping 176 yards on the ground. Rodney Smith added 74 yards and a touchdown, as well.

Drew Wolitarsky had a huge day catching the ball, hauling in eight passes for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

As the Gophers should have been expected to do against an FCS defense, they racked up an eye-popping amount of offensive yards, 593 of them to be exact, nearly touching the 600-yard mark with an incredible balance: 301 passing yards and 292 rushing yards as a team.

The game was over pretty early, with the two teams trading touchdowns in the first quarter before Minnesota rattled off 31 straight points before halftime.

The Gophers improved to 2-0 with the win, this victory following up a Week 1 win over Oregon State. After a week off next weekend, Minnesota closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a game against Colorado State on Sept. 24.
