The Ricketts family and hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin will make a joint bid on Premier League club Chelsea FC, the family formally announced.

"As long-time operators of an iconic professional sports team, the Ricketts family and their partners understand the importance of investing for success on the pitch, while respecting the traditions of the club, the fans and the community," a statement from the family reads.

Griffin is the founder and CEO of Citadel.

Chelsea owner and Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich announced earlier this month Chelsea is up for sale amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The UK government sanctioned Abramovich last week.

Abramovich reportedly seeks $3.3 billion (USD) for the club.
