Shoulder concerns continue as Kris Bryant heads to the DL

The Cubs have placed Kris Bryant back on the 10-day disabled listed, retroactive to July 24 as the third baseman continues to deal with a lingering shoulder injury.

The good news is infielder David Bote is back for another stint with the major-league roster. He has slashed .310/.415/.452 in 20 games with the Cubs this season and will slide into the No. 9 spot of the order and play second base in Thursday's finale with the Diamondbacks.

As for Bryant, it was clear the left shoulder injury was hurting and affecting his play as he was essentially a non-factor in the Cubs offense. Since returning from his first DL stint on July 11, Bryant has only managed to bat .250. If you subtract his two home runs during that time, Bryant has hurt more than he has helped the offense with his nine strikeouts since July 11.

There's no timetable for a return yet, but it's clear that Bryant will spend more than 10 days away as reports surfaced yesterday there's a good chance Bryant's shoulder won't be 100 percent until after the 2018 season.
