Tennessee Completes Sweep, Daytona Closing In On One Of Its Own

The Smokies completed their sweep of Chattanooga Saturday night, racing to an early lead before earning an easy 7-2 victory at AT&T Field. Tennessee advances to the Southern League finals, where it will face the winner of the Birmingham-Mobile series.

Rebel Ridling paced the Smokies with a pair of hits, including a triple, and four RBIs, helping Trey McNutt earn the victory. McNutt allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings before the pen clamped down the Lookouts over four shutout innings.
Daytona A
The Cubs seized a commanding lead in the Florida State League finals Saturday, drubbing St. Lucie, 10-4, at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Daytona will go for the series sweep and its fifth FSL championship on Sunday down Floridas East Coast at Digital Domain Park.

Daytona pounded out 12 hits, including a pair of homers. Justin Bour had a three-run homer and Jake Opitz had a two-run shot, both of which came in the seventh inning. Matt Szczur added three hits and two RBIs.

While the bats were busy handling of St. Lucie pitching, Daytona starter Frank Del Valle dazzled, pitching his best game as a Cub. He had made two starts near the end of the regular season for Daytona and did not pitch well. He struck out eight and tossed six shutout innings on Saturday, though.

WHITE SOXBirmingham AA
Mobile scored on a throwing error by Johnnie Lowe in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday night to edge Birmingham, 3-2, and pull within a victory of advancing to the Southern League championship series. The BayBears will look to finish off the Barons Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Birmingham had taken a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning but Mobile tied it with a run in the ninth off Anthony Carter, setting the stage for the 11th. Ollie Linton and Adam Eaton led off with back-to-back singles before A.J. Pollock bunted back to low, who made the throwing error.

Charlie Leesman started for the Barons and allowed an unearned run on three hits through 7 23 innings. He fanned nine and didnt walk a batter before giving way to Carter, who retired the final batter of the eighth inning after Leesman surrendered a two-out single.

In other action, Great Falls dropped Game Two of the Pioneer League playoffs, 11-1, at Missoula. The third and deciding game of the series will be played Sunday evening in Missoula.
