Toyota Park to host Red Stars, Women's World Cup trophy

After making the rounds across the country and appearing at U.S. Cellular Field and Wrigley Field, the FIFA Women's World Cup trophy is coming to Toyota Park.

Nine weeks after a Carli Lloyd hat trick spurred the U.S. women's national team to an emphatic 5-2 victory over Japan, seven members from the side - including Lloyd - will meet in Bridgeview on Sunday, Sept. 6 as the Chicago Red Stars take on the Houston Dash in their National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) regular season finale at 4 p.m. CT.

Fans will have the opportunity to line up to have their photos taken with the trophy from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Sunday will mark the second time this season that the Red Stars will play at Toyota Park. The team, which has predominantly called Benedictine University Sports Complex its home, trounced the Boston Breakers 3-0 on May 9 as part of a doubleheader with the Fire on May 9.

The star-studded affair brings together the likes of USWNTers Shannon Boxx, Lori Chalupny, Julie Johnston and Christen Press, who will lead the Red Stars (8-3-8, 32 points) against the Dash (6-8-5, 23 points), led by Morgan Brian, Meghan Klingenberg and Lloyd.

The Red Stars sit in second place in the NWSL standings, eight points adrift of league-leading Seattle Reign FC. Seattle's 2-1 win over the Washington Spirit on Saturday was enough to help Rory Dames' group clinch its first-ever appearance in the NWSL playoffs. Chicago will return to Toyota Park on Sept. 13 with home field advantage in the semifinal, which pits them against FC Kansas City.
