Welsh-Ryan Arena renovations already underway at Northwestern

Northwestern is still playing the 2016-17 basketball season, but the construction has already begun at on their home court.

The Wildcats play Thursday night in the Big Ten Tournament in Washington, and then comes the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament. But the massive renovations at Welsh-Ryan Arena are already underway. The Cats played their final regular-season game there just four days ago.

To call the renovations "extensive" would be putting it mildly, as just about every aspect of the home of the Cats will be updated and made brand new.

Next season, Northwestern will play its home games at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont while its Evanston home is under construction. The Cats will return to a renovated Welsh-Ryan Arena for the 2018-19 season.

Until then, expect a lot more construction photos like these.
