Cubs release statement after Wrigley Field bomb threat evacuation

Wrigley Field received the green light to re-open after security officials evacuated the ballpark after the Cubs-Giants series had concluded on Sunday due to a bomb threat.

The ballpark was shut down for about an hour until it was safe to re-open.

Shortly after the game had ended, Wrigley Field security told media members to leave the press box but didn't provide a reason.

CSN's Kelly Crull, who was at Wrigley Field, reported it was because of a bomb threat.

Police were on the scene sweeping the ballpark with K-9 units, but no evidence was found.

The Cubs released the following statement on Sunday night:

“Following our game this afternoon, we received a bomb threat and took swift action to clear the few remaining fans, players, staff and media from the ballpark. After a thorough search by law enforcement, no evidence was found to suggest this threat was credible. We take safety at Wrigley Field seriously and are working with law enforcement authorities to pursue the person who initiated this threat.”
