Paul Konerko has a golden ticket.

Now he just hopes can use it.

All of that depends upon whether or not Wednesday afternoon’s Crosstown Cup game between the Cubs and White Sox at Wrigley Field interferes with his plans to attend Game 7 of the NHL Western Conference semifinals between the Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings at the United Center.

Konerko said a friend gave him the tickets for Wednesday night’s game but he didn’t put much thought into it because he figured he’d be playing. But Konerko has a reasonable chance to make the 7 p.m. faceoff as long as his game, which begins at 1:20 p.m., doesn’t run long.

“Hopefully we don’t do anything stupid like have an extra-inning game or any rain delays tomorrow,” Konerko said. “Let’s keep our fingers crossed there.”

Konerko has long been a fan of the Blackhawks. He grew up in Rhode Island and Connecticut and played hockey until he was 16 years old. He noted he still skates in the offseason when he can.

“Every now and then I get out there,” Konerko said.
