The White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Jesse Crain and first baseman Paul Konerko on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday prior to their game against the Baltimore Orioles.
To fill their spots on the roster, the Sox recalled third baseman Brent Morel from Triple-A Charlotte and bought the contract of left-handed pitcher David Purcey.
Crain has a right-shoulder strain while Konerko continues to nurse a back injury that kept him out of the lineup for 10 days prior to Tuesday night's game with the Orioles.
Morel returns to the White Sox after a three-day stint (June 26-28) during which he went 2-for-9 (.222) and made two starts. Purcey is 0-2 with a 3.03 ERA, three saves and 43 strikeouts in 26 appearances with Charlotte this season.
