Avisail Garcia is coming to the South Side.
Shortly after announcing the trade of veteran outfielder Alex Rios to the Texas Rangers on Friday afternoon, the White Sox announced that outfield prospect Avisail Garcia would be called up from Triple-A Charlotte to fill the suddenly vacant roster space. The team expects him to arrive in time for the second game of Friday's doubleheader with the Minnesota Twins, which airs at 7 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet.
Garcia was acquired just 10 days ago as the big piece coming back to the White Sox in the three-team trade that sent Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox. Garcia, who came over from the Detroit Tigers system, figured to be joining the White Sox as a part of their rebuilding effort ever since his acquisition.
The 22-year-old Garcia played just eight games with Charlotte, going 10-for-27 with a home run, nine RBIs and six runs scored. He appeared in 30 games for the Tigers earlier this season, going 20-for-83 in those contests.
