Gordon Beckham has been cleared for activity and is expected to return to Double-A Birmingham’s lineup on Sunday afternoon.
Beckham, who has been limited to one minor-league game and has been bothered by a sore left oblique since March 14, will play Sunday, the club announced.
The White Sox have been very deliberate with Beckham as they don’t want him to further injure himself and miss several months. The club has sidelined him since April 4 after he reported some soreness in his left side.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn has said he doesn’t want Beckham to rush back in part because the club has options to ably fill in at second.
“We think things are calming down,” Hahn said Thursday. “Specifically, we’ve got to get him back and seeing live pitching on a regular basis before I can give you a timeframe. … Obliques are tricky. You got to make sure it’s quiet for consecutive days before he starts to ramp up and remains quiet as we start to ramp up.”
