Bobby Jenks' story may not be over yet, but the former White Sox closer's journey is a cautionary tale for athletes.
Jenks told CSNChicago recently he was "close to death" with an addiction to painkillers shortly after his baseball playing career came to an end in 2011.
Monday, WGN Radio's Jordan Bernfield joined SportsTalk Live and reiterated just how disheartening Jenks' story is.
"It's sad when you think about some of the sacrifices they make that are not healthy, like what Jenks is going through," Bernfield said. "His body is deteriorating and he's addicted to painkillers just to keep himself feeling OK enough to play. That's scary stuff. When you hear that in baseball, different from the other sports, it really opens your eyes to something that we don't know enough about."
