Saying the Blackhawks will be the next Chicago sports team to win a championship isn't exactly a hot sports take -- but saying the White Sox will be the next title-winning team besides the Blackhawks in our city seems a little bold.
But that's exactly what Mike Ditka said. The former Bears player and coach wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday that he sees the South Siders winning a championship before the Bears, Bulls and Cubs:
The Cubs haven’t won a championship for a long time. And unless they improve the caliber of players, they won’t. The White Sox have been close, and they’re getting better. The Bulls, everything was based on Michael [Jordan] for a long time, but now it’s a different situation. There are so many good basketball teams now. If I had to pick one [long pause], it would be the White Sox.
That's not exactly in-depth reasoning -- the White Sox were one of the worst teams in baseball in 2013 -- but hey, it's at least worth a discussion, right?
