The Chicago White Sox will thank their fans for sticking with the team throughout today's rain delay.

The White Sox are offering fans with tickets from today’s game a complimentary ticket to a home game next season in the month of April. The ticket will exclude Opening Day and the series vs. the Boston Red Sox. The rain delay before today's game lasted four hours and 23 minutes.

Once tickets for next season go on sale, fans can bring their ticket stub or mail it to the ticket office at U.S. Cellular Field. The ticket stub can be redeemed for the best available outfield reserved or upper level seat to one of 12 games of the fan’s choosing. Those games include series against Tampa Bay and division rivals Minnesota, Cleveland and Detroit.

Brooks Boyer, White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing, said the fans needed to be given an incentive even though the season did not turn out as expected.

“From a competitive balance standpoint and where the standings are right now, it was important for baseball that we played today’s game,” Boyer said. “We appreciate the patience of our fans, and the offer of a free ticket to a game next April is the least we could do after they waited out the long delay.”

Major League Baseball mandated that the game be played due to the Cleveland Indians' standing in the American League Wild Card race.
