Leury Garcia will bat leadoff and play second base on Wednesday, and Marcus Semien is in the ninth spot at third base for the White Sox.
White Sox manager Robin Ventura wants to give the rookies several chances to see what they can do over the final month of the season. But Ventura said he won’t just watch one area in particular when he evaluates his infielders.
“You just watch them play,” Ventura said. “How they hit, you're going to view them by how they play and hitting's part of it and so is defense and whether they can play certain positions, how they do at those positions and just how they carry themselves and go about their business. You're watching everything. Average and all the other stuff, it's going to be evident by what their numbers are. But I'm not going to rank them. Just let them go play and see how what comes.”
Garcia, who has a .171 average and two RBIs overall, is 3-for-24 in 12 games with the White Sox.
Semien is 2-for-8 with an RBI in three games played.
Fellow rookies Josh Phegley and Avisail Garcia are also in the lineup as the White Sox look for a series victory against Anibal Sanchez and the Detroit Tigers.
