ARLINGTON, Texas -- Gordon Beckham could be close to returning to the White Sox, manager Robin Ventura said Friday.
The second baseman, out with a strained oblique since March 14, has seen action in three straight days, including both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The White Sox want to see Beckham stretched out but that could happen if he continues to play straight through the weekend for Double-A Birmingham.
Headed into Friday, Beckham is 3-for-17 with two RBIs and three walks in six games. Most of his plate appearances have come this week after a 10-day absence from action following a setback.
“He’s getting closer,” Ventura said. “You want to stretch that out to where before he would come out in the fifth or sixth inning in a game. You want to make sure you get a good five, six in a row where you don’t feel anything, so you know, even when they do it, there are no signs. It just happens. Knowing that he’s had it before, you just want to just nip it.”
