Their preference would be to avoid it, but even if they don’t lose 100 games Paul Konerko said the White Sox already have an idea what it feels like.

With three games left in the regular season, the White Sox are in need of only one victory to avoid achieving the dubious distinction for only the fourth time in franchise history.

The last White Sox team to lose 100 games was the 1970 club, which lost 106.

Only the 1932 White Sox, who went 49-102, and the 1948 club, which was 51-101, have also reached triple digits in losses.

The current club has 97 losses, the most since the Paul Richards-led White Sox went 64-97 in 1976.

“You don’t want to lose 100,” Konerko said. “You don’t want to put that on the team next year. Whoever is here is gonna have to answer questions about this season and just have it in the back of their minds. … I promise you, even if we don’t lose the next three we know what it feels like to lose 100. I don’t think we need to confirm it.”
