GLENDALE, Ariz. — Gordon Beckham is suffering from a case of hair envy.
Normally the player with the biggest mop in White Sox camp, the second baseman joked on Tuesday that rookie third baseman Matt Davidson’s mane has surpassed his own.
Beckham arrived at camp on Monday, three days before the White Sox have scheduled their first full-squad workout. Thus far, Beckham joked he hasn’t introduced himself to Davidson or his long locks. Davidson was acquired in a Dec. 18 trade that sent Addison Reed’s full head of hair to Arizona.
“I’m going to have to relinquish that crown,” said Beckham, who also has grown a beard after he spent all offseason in Chicago. “(Davidson’s hair is) pretty solid. ... He’s good. He’s good. I haven’t talked to him yet. It’s kind of a standoff. But he’s got good hair. You have to give it to him.”
