Report: Manto hired as Orioles' minor league hitting instructor

Former White Sox hitting coach Jeff Manto has been hired by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.

Manto, who was fired at the end of his second season as the White Sox hitting coach, takes over as Baltimore’s minor-league hitting coordinator.

The White Sox replaced Manto after the club slipped from fourth in the American League in runs in 2012 to 15 th last season. The club named former Oakland A’s minor-league hitting coordinator Todd Steverson as Manto’s replacement last week.

Manto played for the Orioles, hitting a career-high 17 home runs in 1995. Prior to being named the White Sox hitting coach, he was the franchise’s minor-league hitting coordinator for four seasons.
