KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Both benches were warned Sunday after Chris Sale nearly hit Royals hitter Omar Infante with multiple pitches.

In the bottom of the inning after White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu was hit by a pitch for a second straight day, Sale got a little uncharacteristically wild.

The left-hander, who walked only one batter over eight scoreless innings, threw inside to Infante on three straight pitches, each coming closer and the last forcing the hitter to bail out and hit the dirt. At that point, plate umpire Greg Gibson warned both benches.

Infante grounded out to shortstop to end the at-bat.

"Leaking front side," Sale said. "Flying open. Ball cut a little bit, so s*** happens."
