Sore shoulder should only cost Adam Eaton one game

CLEVELAND -- Adam Eaton was out of the lineup on Sunday but White Sox manager Robin Ventura doesn’t seem anxious about a long-term absence.

The leadoff man exited in the eighth inning of Saturday’s victory over the Cleveland Indians with a sore left shoulder and wasn’t in the lineup on Sunday, either.

J.B. Shuck started in Eaton’s place. Ventura believes Eaton -- who went on the disabled list twice in 2014 -- will return to the lineup on Monday when the White Sox open a four-game series at the Boston Red Sox.

“Not concerned about it, just feels he needs today,” Ventura said. “It would be a day-to-day thing, but I expect him to be alright tomorrow. Herm didn’t seem real overly cautious about it lasting longer than today. And he could go in and hit today if we really needed him to play today.”

Eaton got out to a slow start this season but has been a force since he sat out three games in May with the flu. From May 5 on, Eaton is hitting .268/.349/.436 with 25 extra-base hits and 21 RBIs in 318 plate appearances.

Ventura’s confidence probably stems from the fact that Eaton seemed to be in an upbeat mood as he received treatment on Sunday morning. After Sunday’s game, Eaton said he woke up with some soreness but felt better after he received treatment. Eaton also believed he would have sat out Sunday’s game anyway.

“I feel I’ll be all right, feel better,” Eaton said. “We don’t think it’s anything serious. Just a little soreness, woke up (Sunday) and I think they were going to give me a day anyway and they just kind of reassured they were going to give me the day. Expect to be back tomorrow.”
