The White Sox announced on Tuesday afternoon that outfielder Avisail Garcia underwent successful surgery at Rush Oak Park Hospital to repair a torn labrun and avulsion fracture in his left shoulder.
The 22-year-old Garcia, who is out for the season, will remain in Chicago with the team while undergoing an estimated six months of rehabilitation. Garcia is expected to be available without restriction for the start of spring training in 2015.
Garcia injured his shoulder while attempting to make a diving catch in the sixth inning against the Colorado Rockies on April 9.
Garcia was battling .267 with two home runs, four RBI and six runs in eight games this season. The White Sox originally acquired him in a three-team trade with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox last season.
