As expected, Carlos Rodon is headed to Single-A Winston-Salem.
The White Sox announced their top pick in last month’s amateur draft would be promoted from the Arizona Rookie League to Winston-Salem and he’ll be activated on Wednesday.
After signing a franchise-record $6.582-million signing bonus earlier this month, Rodon is expected to pitch out of the bullpen for the rest of 2014.
The left-hander, picked third overall in the draft, made two appearances in Arizona in the past week. He struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs and four hits over three innings.
The White Sox have said Rodon has the ability to reach the majors this season and could be a member of the 2015 starting rotation. However, general manager Rick Hahn said that would only happen if Rodon is ready.
