The White Sox made a pair of minor moves Wednesday, claiming righty Maikel Cleto off waviers and designating infielder Jake Elmore for assignment.
Cleto, who came over from the Royals, is a 24-year-old pitcher from the Dominican Republic who has also spent time in the Mets, Mariners and Cardinals organizations.
He carries a 24-40 record, 4.93 ERA and 1.497 WHIP in 174 minor-league games (90 starts). Over the last three seasons, Cleto has made 13 appearances for the big-league Cardinals, sporting a 10.34 ERA and 2.04 WHIP in 15.2 innings.
Elmore is a 26-year-old utility man who has played all over the diamond in his six-year professional career.
