The White Sox bolstered their organization Wednesday when they claimed 24-year-old Angel Sanchez off waivers.
Sanchez, a right-handed pitcher, has been in both the Marlins and Rays minor league systems this season. He started the season with the Marlins, was claimed by the Rays on June 13 and then designated for assignment by the Rays on June 30.
He started the season ranked the No. 16 prospect in the Marlins' system. Last season, he was ranked the No. 8 prospect in the Dodgers system, the organization who signed him in 2010.
All told this season, Sanchez posted an 0-9 record and a 7.04 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 14 starts between Class AA Jacksonville (Miami affiliate) and Class AA Montgomery (Tampa Bay affiliate).
The White Sox assigned him to Class A Winston-Salem.
