For the first time since the 1998 season Paul Konerko wasn't part of the White Sox Opening Day lineup.

Konerko re-signed with the White Sox on a one-year deal this offseason and 2014 will be his last season in the majors.

Konerko knows that his role with the club has changed and he isn't expecting manager Robin Ventura to cater to him.

"It was easy," Konerko said. "I just said to Robin, 'You're the manager, you're going to make the lineup. I'm going to give you 100 percent no matter what. Just make the lineup like you would make it if this was the tenth game of the year. Don't cater to me. I know what I signed up for' that was kind of it."
