White Sox purchase contract of pitcher Zach Putnam

The White Sox announced on Thursday they have purchased the contract of pitcher Zach Putnam from Triple-A Charlotte and designated reliever Donnie Veal for assignment.

The 26-year-old right-hander was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts in four appearances for Charlotte in 2014.

In three MLB seasons with the Cubs (2013), Colorado Rockies (2012) and Cleveland Indians (2011), Putnam has a 1-1 record with an 8.53 ERA and 13 strikeouts.

The 29-year-old Veal was 0-0 with a 7.50 ERA, seven walks and six strikeouts in seven games with the White Sox in 2014.
