The White Sox released Triple-A Charlotte reliever Mitchell Boggs on Tuesday.
A late signing this offseason, Boggs struggled in spring training, was released and never got going at Triple-A. He was 2-3 with a 9.50 ERA in 36 innings, allowing 64 hits and walking 17 while striking out 18.
A solid setup man for the St. Louis Cardinals from 2010-12, Boggs struggled with an 8.10 ERA in 2013, but had a decent finish after he was traded to the Colorado Rockies. The White Sox hoped Boggs would return to his pre-2013 levels when they signed him to a $1.1 million deal late in February.
But Boggs was released on March 23 and on April 1 accepted an assignment at Charlotte after he posted a 12.79 ERA in seven games this spring.
