The White Sox kicked off the second half of the season strong, taking two of three games against the Houston Astros. The Sox will look to build off that success when they welcome division rival Kansas City Royals to the South Side. Comcast SportsNet's Chuck Garfien, Bill Melton, and Frank Thomas break down the upcoming matchup in the White Sox Road Ahead, presented by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Honda Dealers.
While the White Sox opened up the second half of the season winning two of three games against the Astros, the Royals were swept by the Boston Red Sox and have now dropped six of their last seven.
On July 1, the Royals sat second in the AL Central and trailed by just 4.5 games to the division-leading Detroit Tigers. Now, Kansas City is looking to climb out of a hole that has found them 11 games back and fifth in the division.
"They're a .500 team. They got the best pitcher in baseball with a .500 team," said CSN analyst Frank Thomas. "It's kind of weird. I don't know if the front office is going to let this continue to happen, but this team is much better than what they're rolling out there."
CSN's Bill Melton dissects what's been wrong with the Royals lately.
"It started with a lack of power, now it's a lack of scoring runs. Like Frank said, they have a good five-man rotation, they have an outstanding bullpen -- probably one of the better ones in the American League. ... It just goes to show you how hard it is to put a baseball team together."
