You can't blame the White Sox for looking everywhere they can for talent.

On Wednesday, the club signed USA Olympic speed skater Eddy Alvarez to a minor-league contract.

Alvarez, who won a silver medal in the 5,000 meter relay at this year's Winter Olympics in Sochi, isn't a stranger to success on the diamond. The shortstop walked onto the team at Salt Lake Community College and posted strong numbers which included a .303 batting average. He earned All-Conference honors and was nominated to be an All-American.
