DETROIT -- The White Sox have a youthful feel on Saturday with five rookies in the starting lineup.
The top three hitters in the order are all rookies with Leury Garcia in center field, Marcus Semien at shortstop and Conor Gillaspie at third. Avisail Garcia is in the fifth spot and in right field and Bryan Anderson will catch and hit ninth.
The five are the most fielded by the White Sox in a game since Sept. 5, 2007, per Stats, Inc. In that contest, Jerry Owens started in center field, Josh Fields was in left, Andy Gonzalez was at third base, Danny Richar played at second and Donny Lucy was the catcher.
“Where we’re at right now, we can put some guys out there and see how they perform,” manager Robin Ventura said. “That’s part of the situation we put ourselves in. But having these guys up here, putting them in different spots and seeing how they perform is something going into next year.”
