GLENDALE, Ariz. — The White Sox traded utility man Jake Elmore to the Oakland A’s on Thursday for cash considerations.

The White Sox designated Elmore for assignment on Wednesday when they claimed right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto off waivers from Kansas City. Elmore joined the White Sox in November when they claimed him off waivers from the Houston Astros.

General manager Rick Hahn said Wednesday he likes what Elmore brings but also noted the White Sox are flush with middle infielders.

“We’re at a point right now where we’re blessed with a little bit of middle infield depth,” Hahn said. “Jake unfortunately got squeezed out and there will be some interest in him, probably swing a small deal for him in the coming days.”
