Williams: Excitement is good, but wins sell tickets

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The enthusiasm for what has transpired the last 4 1/2 months is high in the White Sox front office.

When you consider what they just endured on the field in 2013, executive vice president Kenny Williams and general manager Rick Hahn are in a pretty good mood this offseason. They should be pleased what with all they have accomplished since July with the acquisitions of Avisail Garcia, Jose Abreu and Adam Eaton, three players they believe can be key gears in the machine for years to come.

But just because they’re excited doesn’t mean Williams expects the fans to share in their enthusiasm and arrive in droves at U.S. Cellular Field next season. For fans to buy tickets Williams knows the White Sox -- who have seen a decline in attendance in each of the last seven seasons -- need to rebound from their dismal 99-loss showing.

“Our fan base only gets behind ‘W’s,” Williams said. “Especially based on what transpired last year, our expectation is we have to take the field and prove that we are more like the team we were two years ago than the team we were last year.”
